On Thursday, June 7, around 9:45 PM, Sarnia Police attended the intersection of Indian and Exmouth involving a pick-up truck and a cyclist. The BMX bike being operated by a 15 year old Sarnia youth was lying partially under the driver’s side front tire of the truck. The truck had been northbound on Indian on a green light.
Information from all involved and independent witnesses indicated that the cyclist had entered the intersection in the crosswalk, on a red light. The bike had no lights, no horn or signaling device and the youth was not wearing a helmet. He was incredibly lucky to have suffered only soreness to his leg and knee. He was transported to hospital to be checked.
The driver of the truck, a 48 year old Sarnia man was not hurt. There was minor damage to his vehicle. The youth was issued a summons for Failing to Stop for a Red Light.
