For three of the break and enters that happened on the weekend, two individuals were arrested.  There were also three people arrested and charged for stealing an automobile and theft from other vehicles.

On July 28, around 3:30 PM, the police attended an address in the 100 block of South College Street after a man reported damage and theft from his motorcycle.  Police were able to view video surveillance from that location and identified the man responsible.

On July 28 around 10:50 PM a 16 year old Sarnia youth smashed the window of a business at Lakeshore and Murphy Roads and stole an item.  He left the area on foot.  Police arrived and located the male a short distance away.  Again, video surveillance inside the business proved very effective.  It showed the same male committing the crime.  He faces a Break and Enter charge.   At the time of his arrested, he falsely identified himself and he now faces an additional charge of Public Mischief.   He was released and will make his first court appearance on September 6, 2012.

On July 29, around 2:30 AM, a 93 year old Sarnia woman was awakened and found a man standing in her bedroom.  He immediately fled.  The property, located in the 300 block of North Mitton Street, had been entered via a rear window.  The screen was damaged.  A garage on the property was also damaged by the same suspect. Cash and sunglasses were taken.  The area was checked but no one was located.

On Sunday, July 29, just before 4 AM, police responded to the area of Bridalpath Trail regarding a break and enter.  Police checked the area after a description of two males was provided by the homeowner.  The female resident was up at the time and heard a loud bang in the kitchen.  She observed two males with bandannas over their faces.  One male yelled “run” and the pair fled with some cash that had been sitting on the table.   The homeowner’s son gave chase and was assaulted during a brief altercation.  The back gate in the rear yard was damaged by the males fleeing.

Police responded to take a report.  The area was being checked by other officers when a man matching the description was found hiding in the bushes of a residence on Winchester Crescent.  He fled when he saw the cruiser.  Police continued to check the area.

The same male was later spotted later, a short distance away.  He was arrested around 4:12 AM for Trespass by Night.  His story was not adding up after a brief investigation.  It was further discovered he was on probation.  The 18 year old Sarnia man was charged with Prowl at Night and Breach of Probation.  He will go to court September 4, 2012.   No cash was found on the man.  The investigation continues.

On July 29 around 9:30 AM, a 37 year old Sarnia woman reported the theft of her vehicle from Woodland Avenue.  The vehicle was equipped with “On-Star”.  Additional complaints from two more residents in the area revealed other cars had been entered and items stolen, including a GPS and a stereo system.

The On-Star satellite tracking system indicated the vehicle was in the area of Euphemia and Davis Streets.  Officers attended and found the 2012 Chevrolet Equinox and also observed two people exiting the truck.  They were immediately arrested.  A 17 year old Sarnia youth and a 19 year old Inwood woman face several charges, including Possession of Property Over $5,000, Possession of Property Under $5,000.  The property was located in possession of the individuals.  They are both being held for bail.
