Walking on Thin Ice

Over the past week the Sarnia Police Service has responded to complaints of youths walking on the ice in and around the Sarnia Marina. The public is being reminded that during this time of year the ice that is still present is very thin and dangerous for people to walk on.

The Sarnia Police Service would like to caution the public in regards to this type of activity and to use caution when in and around the Marina and other water ways.

Suspects to Identify

The Sarnia Police Service is asking for assistance to identify two break and enter suspects.

On February 23, 2015 just after 2:00 a.m. two male suspects gained entry to an apartment building on Sandy Lane. Entry was gained by using an unknown tool to defeat the lock on the front door. Once inside, it is believed the two suspects went to a seventh floor laundry room and attempted to break open the coin boxes on the machines. Although no money was taken there was approximately $400.00 damage done to the coin boxes.

The two suspects were captured on surveillance video.

The first suspect is described as 5’10” to 6 feet tall, dark short hair and was wearing blue jeans, a ball hat with a blue front and white mesh back and a dark winter jacket with white lettering across the back.

The second suspect is described as 5’10” to 6 feet tall, clean shaven wearing a black jacket, a dark hoody and dark coloured toque.

Pedestrian Struck

On March 9, 2015, Sarnia Police investigated a motor vehicle collision in the 800 block of Devine St., in the City of Sarnia.

According to witnesses a van was backing out of a driveway and ended up striking an 85 year old female as she was walking along the sidewalk at the end of the driveway. The female was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The 47 year old male driver of the van was charged with careless driving.

The police are reminding motorists to always be aware of their surroundings when driving.

Two Arrested for Robbery

Sarnia Police COPPS Unit officers arrested two men for a March 4, 2015 robbery this weekend.

The two accused men aged 41 and 24 lured the victim from his residence to a meeting in the area of Devine and Emma Street. Once the 26 year old male victim arrived he noticed that the 41 year old was holding a baseball bat. The victim was then struck with the bat numerous times before he managed to flee. The victim was chased to Stuart Street where he was again assaulted and threatened. The victim handed over cash and a cell phone and the two accused men left the area.

The 24 year old accused was arrested without incident on Friday March 6, 2015 at about 2:00 p.m. and is charged with assault with a weapon and robbery.

The 41 year old accused was arrested on Saturday March 7, 2015 just before 7:00 p.m. and is charged with assault with a weapon,robbery,utter threats to cause bodily harm, resist arrest and breach of probation.

Both accused men are from Sarnia and were held for a bail hearing.

Arrested with Meth

On Friday, March 6, 2015 just before 7:00 p.m. members of the Vice Unit spotted a 23 year old Sarnia man wanted by Lambton Ontario Provincial Police. The man was arrested in the 300 Block of N. Christina Street on a warrant for breaching his probation. During a search of the man officers located almost 59 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $7000.00. The man was held for a bail hearing and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Sarnia Police continue investigation of vehicle – pedestrian collision

Date: March 7, 2015

 

On March 6, 2015 at about 8:25 PM, Sarnia Police responded to a call of a pedestrian being hit by a motor vehicle on Finch south of London.

An adult male pedestrian was struck by a vehicle that was northbound on Finch south of London. The male pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital in London for medical care.

Police request any person who may have witnessed this incident to call (519) 344-8861 ext. 6156.

The investigation continues.

Arrest: Queen Street Fire

Date: March 5, 2015

Sarnia Police Criminal Investigations officers have arrested a suspect in relation to a recent fire on Queen Street.

Sarnia Fire and Rescue along with Sarnia Police and Lambton EMS responded to a fire at an apartment building located at Queen and Talfourd Street just after 9:00a.m on March 2,2015.

The building was evacuated at the time and no injuries were reported to the building occupants. The fire was deemed to be suspicious and Sarnia Police assisted the Sarnia Fire Prevention Officers with the investigation. As a result of their investigation a 21 year old Sarnia man was arrested shortly after 1:30 p.m. March 5, 2015 and charged with Arson. He will appear for a bail hearing.

Update:Sex Assault

Sarnia Police arrested a 16 year old youth on Tuesday March 3, 2015 at about 3:30 p.m. in relation to the March 1, 2015 assault which took place on Wellington Street.

Police had released a video and received numerous tips that assisted in the investigation. The youth has been charged with Sexual Assault and released on bail .

Update: Sex Assault Suspect

Sarnia Police would like to thank the public for their assistance identifying a suspect shown on a surveillance video.

The assault occurred on Sunday March 1, 2015 at about 8:00p.m. in the area of Wellington Street and Brock Street. Police released a video of the suspect on Tuesday March 3, 2015 at about 12:00 p.m. and received numerous calls assisting with the investigation. The suspect has been identified and charges are pending.
