Lottery Scam Alert

Broadcast time: 1:10 p.m.

Date: February 18, 2015

Sarnia Police are advising of a Lottery Scam that has targeted people in the Sarnia and surrounding area. Victims receive a telephone call advising them that they have won a huge cash prize and a car. The caller has the victim open up bank accounts and then has the victim cash cheques using these accounts. The scammers have someone pick up the money from the victim and the cheques are later found to be fraudulent.

The caller in the Sarnia case has an American accent. The suspect picking up the money is a light brown skinned male about five feet nine inches tall. He had a beard and was driving a mid-sized black car.

Remember you cannot win a lottery you did not enter and you don’t have to pay a fee to collect a prize.
