New Weapon to Deter Theft

Broadcast time: 11:39 a.m.

Date: January 13, 2015

Sarnia Police will begin using new technology to identify stolen property.

The service will begin using the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police endorsed TRACE PEN technology .These pens can be purchased at local Home Hardware stores by members of the public for $39.99. The kit provides a pen that can mark approximately 50 items and stickers for the window indicating items in the home are marked.

Here’s how it works. The pen contains invisible glue loaded with special microdots which have been laser-etched with an ID number that is unique to each pen. Users then register their property on a database using their own unique number. If something is stolen the database registers the number for police. The police can then use a special ultra-violet light to find the hidden glue, and microdot. A magnification device, available to police only, then reads the number and matches it to the victim on the database. The database allows the ability to add pictures of the item marked.

The pen will allow police to identify stolen property and to return the property to the rightful owner. It also empowers property owners to make a difference in our community by preventing theft and protecting their own property. For more info visit: https://www.traceidentified.com/

Broadcast time: 7:47 a.m.

Date: January 8, 2015

Sarnia Police arrested a Sarnia man for impaired driving last night for the second time in in three months.

The 29 year old man was leaving a drive thru on London Road when a patrol officer noticed him driving at a high rate speed through a parking lot. The officer activated his emergency lights but the driver failed to stop. The driver was followed into a driveway on Tweedsmuir Avenue. After a short conversation the officer arrested the man for impaired driving. It was soon discovered that the man had been charged three months previously for impaired driving and had been released on conditions to abstain from consuming alcohol and not to drive a motor vehicle. Once at the police station the man provided samples of his breath that showed he was over three times the legal limit.

He has been charged with impaired driving, driving over the legal limit, disqualified driving and two counts of violating his release and is being held for a bail hearing later today.

Failed to Listen: Results in Charge

Broadcast time: 10:19 a.m.

Date: December 29, 2014

On Saturday December 27, 2014 at about 1:45 a.m. Sarnia Police arrested a man for obstructing an investigation.

Officers attended a residence in the 2000 Block of Old Lakeshore Road looking for a male in regards to a motor vehicle collision. While speaking to the mother of the man her other son approached the officers. The second son aged 26 years was intoxicated and argumentative with the officers. He tried to stop his mother from speaking to the police and continually interrupted and spoke over the officers. He was cautioned several times to stop but continued to impede the investigation.

During this time several people arrived by car to provide information to the police. The man then approached and yelled at the people not to speak to the police about his brother, again impeding the officers attempting to investigate. The man was arrested and charged with obstructing a peace officer.
