Update: Commercial Break and Enters

The Sarnia Police Service would like to thank the community for their assistance in solving several recent commercial break and enters.

Sarnia Police released two surveillance videos, on February 4th and February 10th, showing suspects committing break and enters to businesses in the south end of the city. After the release of the videos, investigators received tips from the community which assisted them with their investigation and they were able to make an arrest.

A 45 year old Sarnia man was arrested Thursday February 12, 2015 and charged for three separate break and enters. At the time of his arrest he was in possession of a prohibited knife and was also the subject to two weapons prohibitions. The accused man is in custody awaiting a bail hearing for charges including three counts of break and enter, possession of breaking and entering tools, possession of a prohibited weapon and two counts of breaching weapons prohibitions.

Exmouth Collision Update

Sarnia Police Service Traffic Branch continues to investigate a collision involving a pedestrian and motor vehicle.

The collision occurred around 3:00 p.m. Tuesday February 10, 2015 on Exmouth Street and Colborne Street in the east bound lanes of Exmouth Street. The male pedestrian was transported by ambulance to Bluewater Health Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Break and Enter Investigation

Date: February 10, 2015

 

Sarnia Police Service is investigating a business break and enter that occurred in the 600 block of Scott Road.

On January 24, 2014 at about 4:00 a.m. surveillance video captured two suspects wearing hoodies entering the compound and removing a Honda generator and three Stihl saws from a truck. The total value of the items taken is estimated to be $3,600.00. The suspects arrived in a red Dodge Ram pickup truck and there may have been other suspects with them not captured on the video.

Community Safety Net

Sarnia Police Service, in partnership with Community Safety Net, are advising Sarnia businesses that a representative from Community Safety Net will be in the Sarnia area over the next couple of months looking for sponsors to support a community oriented initiative that influences our collective quality of life.

The initiative is a book entitled “Drug Safety: Smart Choices for Life” along with other safety manuals, and are family resource manuals that educate and protect our youth. The books will provide young people in our Service area with effective tools and offers parents practical ideas on dealing with various concerns they may have.

The books will be distributed to all students in the Value, Influences and Peers (VIP) Program in local schools.

Person To Locate

Sarnia Police would like to identify a young woman who attended the front desk of the police station with a young boy.

The two attended the front desk area on Friday February 6, 2015 at about 3:20p.m.and she asked to speak with an officer. She appeared to be in a very agitated state and left the station before an officer had an opportunity to speak with her. She left with the child and another female in a green coloured minivan with damage to the right rear bumper.

Police are concerned for the young woman’s and child’s welfare. At this time there is no evidence of a criminal offense.

Vice Officers Nab Man with Drugs and Cash

Sarnia Police Service Vice officers charged a 37 year old Sarnia man for possessing drugs for the purpose of trafficking.

Just after 10:00p.m. on Wednesday ,February 4,2015 vice officers were involved in a drug investigation in the 100 block of North Russell Street when they spotted the man . This individual was known to the officers from previous interactions with the police for drug offences. It was learned the man was out on bail as well as probation and that he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest related to a theft charge. The man was arrested and during a search police located almost 21 grams of methamphetamine and almost $1,800.00 cash. The seized methamphetamine has an estimated street value of $2,500.00.

The man is being held pending a bail hearing and faces one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking, four counts of failing to comply with conditions of his bail and one count of breaching his probation.

Assistance Needed to Identify Theft Suspects

Sarnia Police Service is requesting assistance to identify two people captured on surveillance video.

On Wednesday January 28, 2015 just after 2:00a.m. the two suspects entered a construction business property located on Gladwish Drive. The suspects covered some of the security cameras with gloves in an attempt to hide the crime. The suspects were able to steal some welding equipment before being scared off by the security alarm sounding. Investigators believe these suspects may be involved in other break and enters in the city.
