Weekend Stabbing

Sarnia Police Criminal Investigations Branch is investigating a stabbing which occurred over the weekend.

The incident took place at a residence in the 100 block of Cameron Street just before 7:00 a.m. on Sunday May 10, 2015. Three males dressed in dark clothing and with their faces covered, attended the home and when the victim answered the door he was attacked and suffered stab wounds. The 60 year old victim was transported to London for medical treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Drunk Man Fails to Listen

On Saturday May 10, 2015 officers were called to a residence in the 300 block of Cromwell Street regarding an intoxicated male refusing to leave. Officers’ attended and tried to speak with the 30 year old drunk man. The man was belligerent and continually yelled at police as they explained the situation to him. The man was asked several times to leave, however he continued to argue with the home owner and police. The man stayed in the area and continued to yell and argue with the police and homeowner. He was warned to leave or be arrested but he continued with his behavior. When approached by police he ran and hid behind another home. When one officer approached the man the officer was kicked in the chest. The man continued to struggle as officers arrested him.

The man was held for a bail hearing faces charges including assaulting police resisting arrest and causing a disturbance

Unruly Woman

On Saturday May 9, 2015 at about 5:00 a.m. officers responded to a home in the 100 block of Euphemia Street regarding a young woman screaming and yelling.

When officers arrived the woman appeared to be under the influence of some substance and out of control. Officers took her into custody after a short struggle. Once handcuffed the women spit on the face of one officer and struck the second officer as he carried her to the police cruiser. She began yelling that she would kill the officers.

The 19 year old woman was held for a bail hearing and faces charges including two counts of assaulting police, uttering threats to cause death and resisting arrest.

Update: Death Investigation

The Sarnia Police Service has concluded the investigation regarding the deceased person discovered on Russell Street.

Sarnia Police were called to the residence on Wednesday May 6, 2015 during the noon hour. Investigators have determined that there is no foul play suspected in the death of the 57 year old Sarnia woman. The Sarnia Police Service will not be releasing further information.

Cyclist Flees

On Sunday May 3, 2015 just before 1:00 a.m. officers with the C.O.P.P.S. unit stopped to speak with a man near Forsyth and Wellington Street. The male was riding the bicycle with no light and when officers approached him the man struck one officer with the bicycle. The 26 year old man then ran from the officers and hid under a trailer located in a back yard on Davis Street. He was located a short time later and arrested. The Sarnia man faces charges including assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, trespassing and two counts of breaching his bail. The man is being held pending a bail hearing.

Request For Help Identifying Suspect

The Sarnia Police Service needs help identifying a suspect involved in a theft.

On March 31, 2015 the suspect in this case attended a cell phone business located in the Lambton Mall around 7:00 p.m. The male suspect asked the salesperson to see several phones behind the counter and during the conversation placed one of the phones in his jacket pocket. The suspect denied taking the phone when confronted by the salesperson and fled from the mall. The theft was captured on surveillance video.

Results of Shred It Event

The Sarnia Police Service held the 10th Annual Shred It Event on Saturday April 25, 2015 and considers it a huge success.

During this year’s event 228 people attended and dropped off 8,844 pounds of documents to be shredded. Over the past ten years 1778 people have taken advantage of this event and 64,646 pounds of documents have been shredded.

This annual event assists in reducing fraud and identity theft crimes in our community. The Service would also like to thank our community partners; the Shred It Company and Walmart who help make this event possible.

This year volunteers collected donations towards the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. People attending the Shred It Event graciously donated a total of $702.00 to assist with the 2015 games. This year the charity Torch Run in Sarnia will take place on Tuesday May 12, 2015.
