Update: Attack on Woman November24, 2014

Sarnia Police detectives have laid charges against the young woman who had reported being attacked on Monday, November 24, 2014.

The young woman reported the attack occurred in a commercial alleyway near the intersection of Kathleen Avenue and East Street. She further alleged she was forced to the ground by an unknown male who was able to partially disrobe her. She alleged the assailant was scared off by a passerby who shouted at him.

After an extensive investigation involving several branches of the Sarnia Police Service, the woman admitted she had fabricated the entire incident.

The 25 year old woman was arrested and charged with Public Mischief at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday, November 27, 2014.

Cyclist Gets Ticket

Sarnia Police charged a 21 year old male cyclist involved in a collision with a vehicle on Wednesday November 26, 2014.

At about 7:00 p.m. the cyclist was riding a bicycle east bound on the north sidewalk of Wellington Street when he started to cross Lorne Crescent. The cyclist was riding within the crosswalk and collided with a vehicle that had been stopped at the stop sign. The cyclist had no lights on the bicycle at the time. The cyclist was taken to Bluewater Health by Lambton EMS with minor injuries. He was issued a ticket for riding within the crosswalk. The fine for this offence is $110.00.

Cyclists are reminded to educate themselves with safe cycling practices and the rules of the road. Cyclist must have a white light on the front of the bicycle at night and must walk their bicycle thru a crosswalk.

Reminder “Cops for Cans”

Sarnia Police Service is hosting its second “Cops for Cans” event this Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Wal-Mart on Quinn Drive and at Zehrs Super Centre on London Road. The event will take place from 10 AM to 3 PM. A Sarnia Police cruiser will be parked in each lot with the emergency lights on so it will be easy to locate the collection spots. The goal is to fill the inside of the cruisers with donated food that will go to the Inn of the Good Shepard here in Sarnia.

Sarnia Police is teaming up with the Inn of the Good Shepherd for the upcoming Christmas holiday season in hopes of making sure the Inn has enough food to provide for those needy people this time of year. Officers are aiming to exceed the 1681 pounds of food collected during last year’s event.

Stolen Property Recovered

On November 5, 2014 Sarnia Police arrested a 25 year old Sarnia man on theft charges. As a result of information received during that investigation police executed a search warrant on November 13, 2014 at his residence in the 300 block of Maxwell Street. During the search officers located property which had been reported stolen from vehicles and during break and enters. Items included a TV, tools, bicycles and personal documents. The accused was in custody at the time the search warrant was being executed and was later arrested upon his release.

On November 25, 2014 the accused, Todd Wayne CAMPBELL , was arrested and charged with 12 counts of possession of stolen property.

Over the Limit

On Monday, November 24, 2014 at about 9:30 p.m. a Sarnia Police patrol officer stopped a vehicle on Ontario Street near Palmerston Street. During conversation with the male driver the officer detected the odour of alcohol and requested the driver provide a sample of breath into a roadside device. The breath sample provided indicated a “Fail” and the man was then arrested and brought to the police station to provide further samples. These samples indicated the man was one and a half times the legal limit to drive.

The 47 year old Camlachie man has been charged with Driving Over the Legal Limit and driving with no license. He is being held for a bail hearing.

Sarnia Police investigate attack on woman in Kathleen and East area

Sarnia Police are investigating a report of an attack on a young woman in the Kathleen and East area. It is alleged to have occurred between approximately 10:30 APM and 11:15 PM on Monday, November 24, 2014.

The young lady reported the attack occurred In a commercial alleyway near this intersection. She was forced to the ground by an unknown male. The assailant is reported to have been able to partially disrobe the victim, when she was on the ground, but he was scared off by a passerby who shouted at him. The assailant is reported to have fled on foot northbound on East Street.

The passerby who scared off the assailant is described as a female who got in to a Ford Taurus or similar type vehicle, and drove away after the suspect ran from the scene.

The assailant is described as:

  • Male, tall in stature;
  • Short dark hair;
  • Wearing dark leather coat that extended to at least the mid-thigh;
  • Also wearing jeans, and light-colored running shoes

Investigators wish to talk to any person who may have witnessed this event, or who may have any information relative to it. Further, police would like to speak with the female party who scared the assailant away from the scene. Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest

On Saturday November 22, 2014 just after midnight a Sarnia COPPS officer stopped a pickup truck on Exmouth Street.

The officer believed the driver was under a driving suspension. Once the driver was stopped the officers suspicions were confirmed and the 26 year old Sarnia man was arrested. During a search of the man the officer located 3 Oxycodone tablets in the man’s pocket. The man was also on probation and was brought to the police station to be held for a bail hearing. Once at the station officers located a small amount of methamphetamine concealed on the man.

The man is charged with Breach of Probation, two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Driving While Suspended.

Sarnia Police responded to 137 calls for service over the weekend. Officers also conducted 11 traffic stops for various traffic violations. The service also took 6 reports of theft from motor vehicles. In 5 of those incidents the vehicles were left unlocked with valuables left inside. Sarnia Police would like to remind everyone to “Lock It or Lose It”. Do not leave valuables in your vehicle overnight. The 137 calls include:

9 Further Charges Laid Against Patrick Martin Cayen

The Sarnia Police Service Criminal Investigative Branch was made aware of another victim that was allegedly sexually assaulted by Patrick Martin Cayen born on December 5, 1958. After receiving further evidence from this victim, Mr. Cayen was charged with 4 counts of sexual assault, 4 counts of sexual interference and 1 count of invitation to sexual touching. Mr. Cayen was arrested on November 18, 2014 and held for a bail hearing which was on November 19, 2014 and was released with conditions from court.

A publication ban was put in place by the courts prohibiting release of any information regarding the victim or the incident.

Charges Laid For Animal Cruelty

On the 19th of October 2014, Sarnia Police attended to 900 block of Colborne Road when a concerned citizen called regarding a small dog found alive in a dumpster wrapped in a garbage bags, with significant injuries. The OSPCA along with the Sarnia Police have investigated this matter. It was determined that the dog had been left in the dumpster for several days. Due to the severe injuries sustained by the dog it was euthanized.

A 22 year old male has been arrested and charged with two counts of animal cruelty on November 18, 2014. The investigation is still ongoing.
