In a bizarre twist the Sarnia Police Service is asking for assistance in locating the victim of a hit and run collision.

The collision took place at about 9:45 am on Tuesday June 18, 2013 at Murphy Rd and Wellington St. A blue Chev Impala driven by a young male collided with the rear end of what is believed to be a white pick-up truck. Only minor damage occurred, however the young male driving the Impala fled and became involved in a single vehicle collision at Lansdowne and Confederation St. causing more damage to the car he was driving.

At this point the young male driver had some explaining to do to the owner of the car, his mother. Police were called and are investigating. Traffic Branch would like to speak to the driver of the other vehicle involved. Anyone with information involving the initial collision is asked to contact Constable Mark Berger at 519-344-8861 ext. 6156.

Three males attended a store in the 800 block of Exmouth Street on June 14, 2013 around 6:30 PM. Two of the men entered the store; the third remained in the parking lot, waiting in a car. While the two men were in the store, they selected items from the shelf then went to the washroom area. The items were concealed in a back pack. The men left the store without paying for the items. In store security confronted the men outside in the parking lot.

The security officer identified himself and advised the men they were under arrest. One of the men tried to run away. The security officer grabbed hold of the man to detain him. The third man that was waiting in the car got out and approached the pair. He took a knife from his pocket and held it to his side. The store security officer saw the knife, feared for his safety and let go of the man he was holding. The two men who had originally been in the store, got into the vehicle and waited until the third male with the knife returned. They all left the parking lot in the vehicle and the police were called.

The suspect vehicle was located shortly after 7:15 PM the same night. Two of the men were arrested near College and Davis Streets. The third was not located and a warrant will be issued for his arrest.

Randy McCracken, age 25, of Corunna is charged with Theft, Possession of a Weapons Dangerous, Assault Peace Officer and Assault with a Weapon.

Lewis Giuseppe Rising, age 22, of Sarnia faces charges of Theft, Assault Peace Officer and Assault with a Weapon. They were held for bail hearings.

A warrant to arrest is being sought for the third man, a 23 year old, also from Sarnia. He will face charges of Theft, Assault Peace Officer and Assault with a Weapon.

A 16 year old female from Petrolia was found fleeing from a stolen car when police attempted to stop it early Sunday morning. On June 16, just before 1 AM, police spotted a car at a high rate of speed near George and Mitton Streets. The vehicle was proceeding on George towards Brock Street. The police cruiser had activated its emergency equipment and as the officer approached the driver’s side, the vehicle fled again, squealing its tires and proceeded through the red light. The car turned northbound onto Vidal Street and pulled into a driveway in the 200 block.

The two occupants fled, attempting to climb a fence. The female passenger was not as quick as the driver and she was apprehended by the officer. She was belligerent and smelled of alcohol. The area was checked and the driver could not be located. The 16 year old female was transported to headquarters, and later released to a guardian on a Promise to Appear with conditions. A check on the car revealed it had been stolen earlier from a home in Petrolia. It was towed and will be processed by the Forensic Identification Branch. The female faces a charge of Possession of Stolen Property Over $5,000

Sarnia Police received a complaint yesterday from someone indicating that people were duped by a scam on a popular website that posted ads for jobs. Someone representing themselves as an out-of-town realtor was looking for a driver for when the realtor came to town on business. The realtor was promising that his “sponsor” would send a cheque in advance to cover expenses but the person cashing the cheque would need to send a portion of the funds in return. There are other similar scams on various websites where the advertiser is offering to send a cheque but advising you must send part of it back to an address that is most often out of the city and even out of the country.

Please be very cautious when responding to any type of cheque cashing request on the internet. Do some back ground investigation on your own by searching sites and verifying any information. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

To report suspicious scams, please visit www.antifishing.org or www.antifraudcentre.ca
