Stolen Motorcycle Recovered After Brief Pursuit

Broadcast Time: 11:50 a.m.                    Date:     September 20, 2023

A 27-year-old male from Sarnia faces numerous charges after attempting to flee from police on a stolen motorcycle.

On September 20, 2023, just prior to 2 a.m., an officer on patrol attempted to stop a motorcycle in the area of London Road and Superior Street for a traffic violation. The driver in this case refused to stop, fleeing southbound on Superior Street at a high rate of speed while carrying a passenger on the motorcycle. The motorcycle continued eastbound on Hickory Avenue, while failing to stop at Indian Road, and was last seen turning north onto Montcalm Avenue.

The officer suspected it was still in the area and successfully located the motorcycle in a driveway in the 400 block of Montcalm Avenue. Police contained this area as both the driver and passenger had fled on foot. The resident of this address advised officers that he did not own a motorcycle and was unaware why it was there. Within a short distance, police located the 22-year-old female passenger hiding behind the garage of this address. As police continued to search this backyard, the driver was eventually located hiding face down behind tall bushes.

Further investigation revealed that this motorcycle, which also had a tampered VIN number and carried improper licence plates, was recently stolen from an address in the 100 block of George Street.

As a result, Cole Allan DEW was arrested and charged with Flight from Police, Dangerous Driving, Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000, Tampering with a Vehicle Identification Number, Trespass by Night, Fail to Comply with Release Order and Breach of Probation. He was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with Use Plates Not Authorized and Disobey Stop Sign.

The accused was held in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
