City of Sarnia Taxi/Limo Driver’s Licence Application

In order to apply for a City of Sarnia taxi/limo driver’s licence, you must possess at least the following:

  • A current, valid Ontario Class “G” photo driver’s licence
  • You may not have more than 9 demerit points on your Ontario driver’s licence at time of application
  • A letter of employment from a taxi company licensed to operate in the City of Sarnia

You must also meet all requirements under the City of Sarnia By-Law Number 19 of 2018: “A By-Law to Regulate and Licence Taxis and other Vehicles for Hire.”

Failure to meet these requirements will result in your application being denied.

Please be advised that upon notification of a successful application, you will be contacted by the Sarnia Police Service and advised to attend the station in order to have your taxi licence photo taken and licence issued to you.  Your Ontario photo driver’s licence will need to be viewed at that time.

A non-refundable fee of $30.00, cash or debit, will be due at that time.

As part of the taxi driver’s licence application process, a vulnerable sector check is performed on all applicants.

Depending on the results of that search, an in-depth check may be required and will involve fingerprints. An additional fee of $33.75 will apply at the time of printing. The Sarnia Police Service will notify you if this process applies to you.

Electronic applications will be responded to within 2 to 3 business days. In-person applications will be responded to within 7 business days.
