On Monday, November 16, 2020, at approximately 11:10 PM, Sarnia Police Service Officers responded to a residence in the 800 block of Michigan Avenue regarding an assault that had taken place.
As officers arrived and began their investigation it was determined that an 18-year-old male victim had been assaulted with some sort of large sharp instrument and required medical attention for the non-life threatening injuries. Ultimately, the victim was transported to hospital where he was treated and shortly thereafter released.
The residence was residence was held as a crime scene while officers from the Criminal Investigation Branch continued with the investigation and were able to determine that the victim and the complainant knew each other and the assault was in relation to some sort of ongoing issue. The crime scene was released at approximately 11:00 AM on November 17, 2020.
Police arrested Matthew Brayden Sylvester, 20 years of age, of Sarnia, for assault causing bodily harm.
Sylvester was held for a bail hearing and has since been released with his next court date to be held on December 12, 2020.
