Today, January 16, 2019, the Sarnia Police Service will hold the official opening of the Sarnia Police Tactical and Academy Training Centre located at the Lambton Mall.
The Training Centre will allow for our officers and civilians to be in a safe and controlled environment while offering the required tools to deliver effective and appropriate training to our members.
This could not have been possible without the generous donations from two of our community’s institutions, LiUna Local 1089 and Kelgor Limited. On Janaury 15, 2019, these organizations were given the opportunity to see and learn about how their contributions are being put to good use for their community.
LiUNA , Local 1089, and its members, donated towards the purchase of a simulation room which will allow our officers the opportunity to train with accuracy to real life situations. Mike Maitland, Business Manager for LiUNA, Local 1089, stated to our members that “LiUNA has a long history of supporting the communities that they live and work in, if this contribution both benefits the people of Sarnia and also allows the Sarnia Police Service to train and equip officers to serve the citizens of Sarnia in a safe and effective manner, then we have accomplished our goal.”
Another organization which assisted in making this training facility possible is Kelgor Limited. Matt Gordon, a co-owner of Kelgor Limited, wanted the members of the Sarnia Police Service and the community to know that “This donation was made possible by all of the employees of Kelgor Limited who are proud to be part of the community and helping to ensure public safety”. Kelgor’s donation assisted in creating the defensive tactics room at the training centre by allowing for the purchase of Kevlar training mats.
Without the donations made by Kelgor and LiUNA, it would not have been possible for this specialized equipment and we thank you.
