On July 13, 2021, at approximately 1:45 PM, a member of the Sarnia Police Service observed a vehicle on Indian Road South that had its rear plate dangling off the back by one bolt. The officer turned around to stop the vehicle and upon doing so the suspect vehicle was observed speeding away, passing vehicles, and continued through a red light, at Confederation Street, heading northbound on Indian Road.
The vehicle then turned into a parking lot in the 100 block of Indian Road just to the south of Devine Street attempting to evade police. The officer located the vehicle and as the suspect vehicle stopped its driver ran from the car refusing to comply to the officer who was telling him to stop. A passenger in the vehicle had already jumped out of the car.
Shortly thereafter, officers from the Community Policing Branch and COPPS Unit formed a perimeter around the area.
Officers located the female passenger, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant, hiding behind some bushes and took her into custody without incident.
With assistance from witnesses, officers located the male driver hiding in a building on Devine Street and he was also taken into custody without incident.
A search of the motor vehicle located approximately 21.8 grams of suspected methamphetamine (approximate street value of $2180.00) and a small quantity of suspected fentanyl.
The passenger, Carley Johanna Phair, 33 years of age, of Wallaceburg, faces one count of possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking.
