Deceased Male From Devine Street Has Been Identified

The Sarnia Police Service is requesting the public’s further assistance in relation to the most recent two homicides in the city.

The first homicide was reported on January 23, 2021, at a residence in the 200 block of Essex Street. The victim in this investigation was identified as Sue Elin Lumsden, 66 years of age, of Sarnia.

The second homicide was reported on January 26, 2021, at a residence in the 500 block of Devine Street. The victim in this investigation has now been identified as Allen Schairer, 62 years of age, of Sarnia

Members of the Sarnia Police Service Criminal Investigations branch are again asking for the public’s assistance in this investigation.

Specifically, detectives are requesting any video surveillance from either residents or businesses, within the following boundaries; Exmouth Street to the north, Christina Street to the west, LaSalle Line to the south, and Highway 40 to the east. The time frame to be captured would be as follows:

  1. January 22, 2021, 5:00 PM to January 23, 2021, 8:00 AM
  2. January 25, 2021, 7:00 PM to January 26, 2021, 7:00 AM

Detectives are asking anyone that has the above requested video to download the video to a memory stick, place it into envelope, and drop it off at the Sarnia Police Service Headquarters located at 555 North Christina Street, Sarnia. In addition, please have your contact information on the envelope.

Over the next few days residents will be noticing an increased presence of uniformed officers going door to door and speaking with residents to determine if they have any information that may assist in this investigation or if they have any video surveillance that the Sarnia Police could use.

Finally, we are also asking for residents to search their property for any piece of identification belonging to Sue Elin Lumsden (Essex Street). If you locate any identification with her name on it please do not touch it but instead immediately call the Sarnia Police Service at 519-344-8861, extension 0. Officers will respond and retrieve any located items.

We would like to advise the public that we are dedicating all of our resources and personnel to solving these crimes. You may also observe an increased police presence in certain areas. We would like to remind the public to call the police if they observe anything or anyone suspicious.
