On September 27, 2019, a male was observed walking along the train tracks on the west side of Imperial Oil. The male was dressed all in black and had a shirt wrapped around his face. He was observed by a number of workers in the area and one of the witnesses reported that it appeared as if the suspect was holding a gun wrapped up in a pouch against his body.
Officers were dispatched to the area and as one of officers responded to the call he observed the suspect walking along the west side of Christina Street. As the officer approached the suspect in his cruiser, the suspect pulled out and drew a rifle pointing it directly at the officer. The suspect then turned to run away from the officer who followed him while in his cruiser. As the suspect ran he pointed his fire at an individual who was cutting her grass causing her to run for cover. A second person, who was stopped at Confederation and Christina, also had the rifle pointed in the direction of the vehicle he was in. The suspect then fired a shot in the direction of the vehicle at which point the vehicle drove away to get away from the suspect.
The officer continued to follow the suspect by car and once he was able to catch up to him he exited his cruiser and drew his firearm ordering the suspect to stop. At this point the suspect dropped his firearm and continued to run. The officer secured the firearm which ended up being a sawed off rifle. The rifle was had ammunition in it, but it jammed up.
Officers immediately flooded the area. The suspect had barged into an apartment and threatened the home owner not to report him, but fortunately officers located the suspect in a short matter of time without further incident.
The suspect was held for a bail hearing and remains in custody.
