Apply for Fingerprints

The Sarnia Police Service offers non-criminal fingerprinting services for the following purposes:

  • Employment
  • Citizenship/immigration application
    • Both Canadian and other countries
  • US Waiver 
  • Visas
    • both Canadian and other countries
  • Record suspension (pardon)
  • Adoption

THE BELOW PROCESSES DO NOT APPLY TO ANY INDIVIDUALS ATTENDING THE SARNIA POLICE SERVICE IN RESPONSE TO CHARGES.


Live-Scan Fingerprints

Live-Scan fingerprints are processed every Tuesday from 1:00 pm to 3:40 pm.

  • An applicant’s fingerprints are scanned and sent electronically to the RCMP for processing
  • The RCMP sends results to the applicant via Canada Post

  • Applicants may fill out the Sarnia Police Civil Fingerprint form in advance and
  • Call #519-344-8861, ext. 5265 to book a fingerprint appointment
    • Walk-ins are accepted based on scheduling availability
    • Call the Service to guarantee an appointment
  • The fingerprinting process takes approximately 10 minutes

 

  • NOTE: For employment with the federal government (Coast Guard, Canada Post, etc.), an ORI number is required
    • The RCMP will send the results electronically to prospective employers instead of returning them to the applicant
    • An ORI number consists of two alphanumeric characters (BX) and five numbers (12345)

Ink Fingerprints

  • Certain agencies require an applicant submit ink fingerprints or
  • Some individuals have difficulty with the Live-Scan process due to certain skin conditions
  • An applicant’s fingerprints are taken using ink and sent to the RCMP for processing
  • The RCMP sends results to the applicant via Canada Post

Ink fingerprints are processed every Wednesday from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

  • No appointment or form is required
  • Walk-in only
  • A flat fee of $38.00 (cash or debit) will apply for every ink fingerprint application.
