On August 22, 2021, at approximately 2:30 PM, officers were dispatched to an address in the 1000 block of Tashmoo Avenue regarding a collision that took place. According to information received the suspect vehicle struck another vehicle and failed to remain. Fortunately, witnesses were able to obtain the licence plate prior to the suspect leaving the area.
Within a short period of time officers attended the address, to which the suspect vehicle was registered to, and located it there with damage consistent to the collision that took place. Officers were able to speak with the driver of the vehicle and as the investigation evolved made the determination that the suspect was impaired by alcohol.
The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Sarnia Police Headquarters where he submitted for testing on an Intoxilyzer Instrument with a qualified Breath Technician. The results of the test indicated that the suspect was over four times the legal limit.
The accused, James Nathan Smith, 62 years of age, of Sarnia, was charged with one count of operation while impaired and one count of blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus.
Smith received a 90 day Adminitstrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and his vehicle was also impounded for 7 days.
The accused will have his first appearance in court on October 19, 2021, at 9:30 am, at the Sarnia Lambton Court located at 700 Christina Street North, in the City of Sarnia
