On July 14, 2022, members of the Ontario Repeat Offenders Parole Enforcement Squad (ROPE Squad) attended the City of Sarnia to locate an accused wanted on a number of outstanding warrants from various jurisdictions including that of Sarnia.

The officers were able to locate the accused as he was about to enter a taxi in the 800 block of Devine Street. The accused made every attempt to evade the officers and actually began throwing articles at the officers, such a chair.

As the foot pursuit continued, officers observed the accused attempting to access a loaded firearm concealed on his person. A violent struggle ensued during which the officers were able to complete the arrest and secure the scene.

Officers recovered a loaded .357 magnum revolver which is a prohibited hand gun.

Sarnia Police Chief Derek Davis commented, “The presence of these weapons in our community is obviously very concerning.  I commend our responding SPS officers, and Provincial ROPE Squad partners for their professionalism under these conditions.  They have safely removed another firearm from our streets, and prevented potentially tragic outcomes.”
