On the September 13, 2022, at approximately 2:30 PM members of the COPPS Branch were on general patrol in the area of Queen Street and Wellington Street. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle for a traffic violation but it appeared that the driver was attempting to elude the police officers. The vehicle in question finally came to a stop in the area of George Street and Christina Street. When the vehicle pulled into a parking spot officers were able to finally conduct a traffic stop.
The driver gave a name of an individual who was not licenced and was unable to produce a photo driver’s licence to confirm his identity. Upon investigating the matter further it was alleged that the individual was attempting to mislead police and would be arrested for public mischief and obstruct police.
As the officers attempted to gain control of the the accused he began to physically resist and was ultimately tasered and finally handcuffed without further incident.
A search of the accused and his vehicle located:
1) 422.06 grams of street ready fentanyl
2) 6.3 grams of pure / uncut fentanyl
The total street value of the controlled substances seized is approximately $121, 265.
The accused in this matter, Suvaughn Sheldon Brown, 29 years of age, of Oshawa, faces the following charges:
a) Public Mischief
b) Obstruct Peace Officer
c) Resist Peace Officer
d) Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking
f) Assault Peace Officer
g) Two count of failing to comply with a release order
Brown remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
