Thefts From Unlocked Vehicles

Broadcast time:
11:40 AM

Date: August 27, 2021

The Sarnia Police Service would like to remind the public to please lock your car doors if you are not with your vehicle.

Recently, officers have investigated a number of incidents where individuals have had items stolen from their vehicle which included credit cards and debit cards.

The thieves then proceed to use the tap feature from the card at various locations, racking up purchases until the card is deactivated. The tap feature on credit and debit cards makes life much easier for its owner but it also makes it very convenient for thieves.

This obviously creates headaches for the owner of the card, the credit company, and the merchant.

We are asking people to remember to lock your car doors and please try and avoid leaving valuables such as your wallets, electronics, and money in the vehicle. It takes thieves less than a minute to go through a car.

Make it difficult for thieves to take advantage of people and just take several seconds to lock car doors.
