Two Impaired Drivers in Two Days

The Sarnia Police Service recently arrested two male drivers nearly 12 hours apart with Impaired Driving.


On December 22, 2019, shortly before 10 p.m., a 35 year old male was observed by police driving northbound on Christina Street near Maxwell Street when suddenly his vehicle crossed over the centre line nearly striking a southbound vehicle that was forced to swerve to avoid a head-on collision. This car was stopped by the officer who detected physical signs of alcohol impairment on the driver and also observed evidence of recent alcohol consumption inside the vehicle.

The driver was arrested for Impaired Driving and transported to the Sarnia Police Service for further breath tests. His blood alcohol concentration was determined to be 4 times the legal limit.

Robert John Wilkinson of Sarnia was also charged with 80 or more milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. He was later released on an Undertaking.


On December 23, 2019, at approximately 10:30 a.m., a 24 year old male was observed passed out behind the wheel at the intersection of Christina Street and London Road. He then drove northbound after a passer-by knocked on the window and woke him up. Police were then notified about this driver and received further information was that there were two small children in the back of the vehicle later determined to be ages four and five.

Police subsequently located this vehicle at Christina Street and Durand Street after it became involved in a minor collision. The driver was spoken to and the officer noted he exhibited physical signs of drug impairment. The driver also failed a standard field sobriety test that was conducted and as a result was arrested for Impaired Driving. Police also located evidence of recent drug use inside the vehicle as well as a small foil package containing suspected Fentanyl.

The driver was transported to Sarnia Police Station for a drug recognition evaluation which he failed and was determined to be Impaired by Drug. The children were safely placed in the care of a family relative.

Randy Charles Muxlow of Corunna was also charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance – Fentanyl. He was held for a bail hearing and was later released on an Undertaking before a Justice of the Peace.

In both cases, each accused had their Driver’s Licence immediately suspended for 90 days and both vehicles have been impounded for 1 week.
