On November 4, 2018, shortly after 4:00 am, members of the Sarnia Police Service were dispatched to a local homeless shelter located in central Sarnia regarding an assault that had taken place. Upon arriving on scene the officers observed a 59 year old victim being treated by paramedics and transported to hospital.
According to witnesses, the attack was vicious, unprovoked, and that the suspect had left the area. The victim was later transported to a London hospital due to the serious nature of the injuries.
At approximately 9:55 am, that morning, an officer on patrol located the suspect on Maria Street. The officer approached the suspect and advised him that he was under arrest regarding an outstanding warrant along with the aggravated assault from earlier that morning. As the officer attempted to arrest the accused and take control, the accused began wrestling and fighting with the officer. The officer did attempt to radio for assistance but the radio was having difficulty transmitting.
The officer attempted gain control of the suspect but they fell to the ground and the accused continued to punch and strike the officer. Fortunately, two paramedics driving by saw the scuffle and assisted the officer and the accused was formally handcuffed but continued to yell and was belligerent. No one was seriously injured during the arrest.
The accused, Colin David Parlette, 37 years of age, was charged with aggravated assault, and assault peace officer. He also had an outstanding warrant for a number of other criminal charges.
