Date: July 5, 2021
On July 3, 2021, at approximately 8:00 PM, a 19-year-old male, was initially observed driving at high rates of speed and dangerously through the City of Sarnia by witnesses. Eventually, the suspect vehicle ended up travelling south bound on Front Street and through the intersection at Exmouth Street.
The driver proceeded through the intersection while facing a red light, lost control, and struck a metal pole that held a traffic control signal and knocked it over. The suspect vehicle narrowly missed several other vehicles and finally came to a stop on a grassy area on the west side of Front St. The vehicle sustained a significant amount of damage. The driver then attempted to run from the scene but fortunately a number of witnesses were able to follow the suspect and were able to detain him on Water Street in in area behind the Sarnia Police Station where officers continued the arrest of the suspect.
Officers arrested the accused for impaired operation. During the arrest the accused became combative and belligerent and would not co-operate to perform a breath test.
The accused, Kyle James Fraser, 19 years of age, of Sarnia faces the following charges:
1) Operation while impaired
2) Refusal to comply with demand
3) Dangerous operation
4) Fail to remain
5) Drive no licence
6) Failing to stop for a red light
As the investigation continued it was later also determined that the vehicle used was stolen and thus Kyle Fraser also faces the following charges:
7) Theft of a motor vehicle
8) Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
Due to the extent of damage at the scene Bluewater Power was kept busy returning the intersection to normal until the following morning.
