On Friday, June 3rd, 2022, just prior to 4pm, a school bus was stopped facing eastbound on Lakeshore Road, between Blackwell Side Road and Pineridge Trail. The red lights on the bus were flashing to warn oncoming traffic and the stop arm was extended as students were about to be dropped off at home. At this time, another vehicle travelling eastbound on Lakeshore failed to stop in time and rear-ended the school bus. Thankfully, no one was injured in this collision.
As a result, a 75 year-old male from Sarnia was charged with Careless Driving. This male was not injured, but transported to hospital for observation purposes.
The Sarnia Police Service would like to remind all drivers to focus their attention driving when they are behind the wheel. Distractions can have devastating effects.
The set fine for Careless Driving is $490.00 and a penalty of 6 demerit points upon conviction. The maximum fine can reach $2000 or a term of imprisonment of 6 months (or both) in addition to a driver’s licence suspension of two years.
