Vice Unit Investigation Leads to Arrests and New Record

Broadcast time:
8:15 AM

Date: August 5, 2022

Earlier this year members of the Sarnia Police Service Vice Unit entered into a drug investigation involving two suspects believed to be trafficking large quantities of crystal methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl in the City of Sarnia.

At approximately 11:36 PM, on August 4, 2022, Vice officers executed a warrant on a vehicle with both accused present in the vehicle parked on Walnut Street in the City of Sarnia. As officers approached the vehicle one of the accused attempted to flee on foot which lead to a brief foot pursuit and struggle with police.

The driver of the vehicle attempted to flee the area with the motor vehicle and during the attempt struck an unmarked police car. Fortunately, officers were able to arrest the driver before further damage or injury could occur.

A warrant was also executed at an address in the 400 block of Wellington Street for further evidence.

The Sarnia Police Vice Unit seized the following controlled substances and currency:

  1. Pure/uncut Fentanyl – 122.3 grams (drastically more potent than cut fentanyl)
  2. Crystal Methamphetamine – 0.55 grams
  3. Marijuana – 287 grams
  4. Cut Fentanyl – 1.01 grams
  5. Cocaine – 72.21 grams
  6. Canadian Currency – $7220.00

The total street value of the controlled substances and currency seized is approximately $53,121.00.

The following individuals have been charged accordingly:

  1. 40 year old Derrick Michael Peachey, of Sarnia, faces two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, one count of possession of a controlled substance, and one count of resist arrest.
  2. 26 year old Hengli Hoang, of Toronto, faces one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking, one count of possession for the purpose of selling cannabis contrary to the Cannabis Act, one count of possession of property obtained by crime – over $5000, and one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Both Peachey and Hoang have been held pending a bail hearing.

The significant seizure of 122.3 grams of pure fentanyl is the largest seizure of the substance in Sarnia Police history and has the potential to produce over a kilogram of cut fentanyl when mixed with a precursor.
