Date: September 16, 2019
On Friday, September 13, 2019, at approximately 1:55 am, Sarnia Police were in the 1000 block of Michigan Avenue where they observed a dog walking in the middle of the street.
Officers recognized the dog from an address that they had attended earlier and transported the dog back to its residence. While in the process of returning the dog officers located a highly intoxicated female passed out in the bushes in the front lawn. Next, an intoxicated male came out of the house yelling and screaming and the female who was in the bushes also woke up and began screaming as well. Officers attempted to ask everyone to calm down and go inside but things escalated when a second male came outside. This young person began yelling obscenities at the police and at one point picked up a beer bottle to throw at the officers.
The first male who came out of the residence attempted to stop the second male from throwing the beer bottle and from there a police officer also tried to assist but during the struggle the young male struck the officer in the head with the bottle. The struggle continued but fortunately the accused was finally handcuffed and brought under control.
The suspect was transported back to the station and held for a bail hearing later that day.
The young offender faces charges for assault police, assault with a weapon, and obstruct police. The officer sustained minor injuries in this incident.
