On March 7, 2019, at approximately 7:15 pm, a resident in an apartment building on Finch Drive noted that their patio window had a hole in it due to the fact that it appeared to have been shot at by a BB gun. Police did attend to investigate the matter but at the time there were no details of where the shot may have come from.
On March 8, 2019, at approximately 7:30 pm, officers were again dispatched to the same complex of apartment buildings regarding a man carrying his child outside that was struck by a BB being shot at him. Fortunately he did not sustain any injuries (nor was the child hit) but he was able to point out the building and unit the shot was fired from. He advised police that he had observed a male standing in front of a window holding what appeared to be a rifle in his hands.
Surveillance video was also available showing the shooting from March 7 coming from the same unit as the shooting on March 8.
Officers attended the suspected unit and after investigating the matter further formed reasonable grounds to arrest a male youth under the age of 16 for two counts of weapons dangerous and one count of mischief under $5000. A BB rifle was also seized.
After being arrested and processed the youth accused was released on a Promise to Appear and an Officer in Charge Undertaking to face a court date.
